NYC [in iphone photos]

Tuesday, November 20, 2012

Hello. (: I am BACK from NYC and ready to share with you some highlights of my trip via iphone photos. If you are following me on instagram, then this post will probably be boring and repetitive for you. New photos and stories will be up soon. I came home with a terrible flu and have been sleeping 13+ hours a day and haven't found energy to upload photos from my camera just yet. Each day I'm feeling a little bit better and my fever is going down little by little, so once I am at 100% recovery, I will share all the AMAZINGNESS that is NYC.

^ From top to bottom: (1) My recently purchased city boots and color-blocked purse. (: Boots from Nordstrom Rack and the purse from The Limited. Patiently waiting on the floor of the airport while dozing off. Our flight was at 5:45 am, but since our group consisted of 20+ people, we had to arrive at the airport by 3:30 in case we faced any trouble. (2) Traveling essentials— magazines for leisure reading, sunglasses for napping, knit scarves for chilly air. We flew through Spirit which has possibly the MOST uncomfortable seats and smallest amount of leg room. Fortunately the flight was a little less than two hours. (3) We went through Grand Central Station and it was BEEEAUTIFUL. I was having a little bit of a freak attack because this was also the shooting location for Gossip Girl, Friends with Benefits, and the infamous flash mob. (I was secretly hoping to spot Serena VanderWoodsen.)

(4) Um, yes. Anyone else a HIMYM fan? The bar, McClarens, was actually inspired by the creator's favorite bar, McGee's in NYC. And yes, we did make sure we payed a visit there. We took photos at this particular booth, and all purchased tourist shirts. It was so awesome. There were photos of all HIMYM cast and special quotes from good ol' Barney, it was a good time. (5) One of the many dessert cafes we stopped by. All the shops in NYC are so cute. (6) Hellooo, Time Square! The city literally never sleeps, and you could never tell this photo was taken at 2 am. My eyes were twinkling like no other when I first stumbled across Time Square. It is beautiful and speedy fast. There are lines of buildings higher than you'd ever seen, walls covered in advertisements, lights shining from almost every corner, and tourists like me soaking it all in. Did I mention there's a F21 with 7 floors and doesn't close til 2 am? Oh, yes.

I'm already getting so excited and nostalgic as I spit out a few recaps. Sigh. I'll be back, New York.

Anyone else familiar with NYC and would like to share some "must go" places? I did spend an adequate amount of time wandering around and wasting taxi cash. I'd love to hear about new places!

XO.

TV Fashion Recap: Revenge

Monday, November 12, 2012

Inspired by CollegeFashion, I introduce my new weekly series of "TV Fashion Recaps," columns of posts featuring the best tv fashion. Each week I will recreate my favorite outfits from the recent episodes of popular shows. I will look at two shows in particular due to their impeccable wardrobe selections: Gossip Girl and Revenge.

Today, I am inspired by Revenge.

Since I missed all the classics from the entire first season, I wanted to tribute one of the oldies. Enjoy!

From flirty skirts to scandalous dresses, Ashley was always spotted in such composed and fun outfits. This nautical number was one of my "summer favorites."

See how I recreated it below.

How did you like this outfit? What are some other "Revenge" outfits you enjoyed?

Weekend Recap

Monday, November 12, 2012

Happy Monday, folks! Hopefully you're lying on the couch with a cup of coffee in one hand, the remote in the other. Unfortunately for me, I'm sitting in a two-hour lecture and decided to take the opportunity to BLOOGGGG. (thumbs up)

Here are my weekend highlights:

- Dinner date with the roommates for Korean food
- My brother visiting campus + cheering him on at a bball tourney
- Watching Grey's with the bf and the brother
- Cooking and napping with the small group
- CFC Thanksgiving Dinner

Each year, my church hosts an early Thanksgiving dinner so members have a time to celebrate together before heading back to respective homes for fall break. Thanksgiving dinner is always one of my favorite church events. Everyone gathers really early (like 7am early. i know.) to cook the turkey and watch movies. Then once it hits about 4pm, all the girls frantically rush back to their homes unsure of what they're going to wear or how they'll do their hair. And it's usually worth it because all the girls always look STUNNING. It's a fun series of events: testimonies, special praise, food, food, food, and pictures. A lot of pictures. We turn in prima donna's snapping the flash for hours on end.

During praise, my pastor mentioned something which I found really profound:
If you look for something to complain about, you'll find it. But Jesus says to be thankful in all circumstances, it's a command. (Reference to 1 Thessalonians 5:18) If you look for something to be thankful for, you'll find them.

This small comment really hit home for me, and I quickly jot it down before my unreliable brain got too distracted with the mashed potatoes to treasure it. But it's true. An attitude of thankfulness isn't just a positive mindset, it's a command from the Lord; because there is ALWAYS something to be thankful for.

WIth that said, here are some things I was thankful for that night. (:

thursday thank you

Friday, November 9, 2012

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching, and I'm reminded how much there is to be thankful for. Thankful for what I have and for what I don't have. Thankful for the things in my pocket and the people around me. Thankful for the experiences I've been through and the ones I dodged.

So I am dedicating each Thursday of this month until Thanksgiving to pause from the busyness and make a conscious effort to be thankful.

Today I am thankful for...

my job.

^ First day of work. I thought that this ill-fitted apron was so legit.

It's been (heavily) sprinkled throughout this blog that I'm a recent barista at a local coffee shop. And I am so thankful to have a job I love. A job I look forward to go to each day, even on days I have to wake up before the sun does. I'm thankful for a boss who is supportive and encouraging. Thankful for co-workers who ask me how I'm doing and willingly pick up conflict shifts. Thankful for regulars who drop more than leftover pennies into the tip jar. Thankful for free coffee and goodies. Thankful for pandora stations and good music. And most importantly, thankful for a job, period.. Those extra rolls of cash have been useful for girls nights and $5 fro-yos.

my mom.

^ one of the many cute texts my mom sends me

Sometimes I get homesick. I miss the sound of my dogs barking or the warmth when they cuddle next to me. I miss my blue blanket and lazy car rides in the nissan. I miss going to target just because. I miss clothes that magically get washed and folded. I miss korean food... But my mom showers me with love even from miles and miles away to ease the homesickness. Through funny texts and photos of daily adventures of the dogs, she reminds me she still cares. I wish I could show off all the funny cards, text messages, emails, and packages she sends on a regular basis. :) I am so grateful to have a mom who is so interested in every facet of my life. So grateful to have a mom who supports anything I do. So grateful to have a mom who wants me to be happy and will move mountains to get there.

my roommates.

We never take photos together, so this is all I could scavenge... But you can already tell that they are clearly not normal.

Thankful for these charming or not so charming girls who are the sisters I never had. Really. These girls have seen me at my absolute worst; when I'm angry, hungry, tired, or a horrid combination of them all, and they still love me and sit with me. Thankful that they genuinely want what's best for me. Thankful that they make me laugh and teach me to laugh at myself, too. Thankful that they have so much faith in who I am and where I'm going in life. Thankful that they love in the forms of food and gifts and funny post-it notes. Thankful that they stay up late to talk with me, for the fifth night in the row. Thankful that fill me up with encouraging words. But most importantly, thankful that they order massive amounts of food with me.

this guy.

Oh, this guy. 2 1/2 years and even for that, I'm so thankful. Thankful that he is still a man I respect, love, and like; and that those feelings are reciprocated. Thankful for how much we've grown and how much our relationship has progressed. Thankful that he lets me order two dishes at a restaurant when I can't decide. Thankful that he holds my purse when we go shopping. Thankful that he listens to my stories, and he actually enjoys them. Thankful that he is not only my boyfriend, but my best friend. Thankful that with each new season, we learn different things. This season, I learned what a luxury it is to have him one flight of stairs away, let alone, on campus this semester. I don't deserve it, it's a luxury; and I'm reminded not take that for granted. Because next semester when I study abroad, we will be forced to do long distance all over again. I also learned to be secure in our relationship despite our absences and busyness. And that fact alone is a testament to how much we've grown. It calms me and gives me hope that he and I will last another season. I hope we spend every season together.

<3

Happy thanksgiving.

[ tuesday ten ] flat girl problems

Tuesday, November 6, 2012

And no, I'm not talking about my chest. Thank you for assuming. However, if you are curious about that topic, I handle that a bit here. (no pun intended)

Today, I'm talking about the place above my head where luscious locks are supposed to fall; but instead, lay a random mop of strings and things.

Don't know what I'm talking about? Don't know what it's like to have random bald spots and a receding hair line? Well you're in luck, because today's tuesday ten is dedicated to a plethora of valuable information regarding this...

10 facts of life as a balding 20-something female:

1. I can't do [hair] buns. In public, at least. If I do ever dare attempt to venture outside, an entire army of 19 interlocked bobby pins is essential. No exaggeration with the number 19 there, it literally takes that many black babies to keep that "do" stay in place. Joke of the day: how many black babies does it take to make a bun?

No, not these black babies:

These black babies:

But I digress. If I run out the door and throw up a careless bun, I'll look like I'm wearing a wig cap. Need proof? Check out this pic and the first comment:

^ I'm the one embarrassingly throwing up a peace sign. And if your eye sight is just as bad as mine, the comment under the photo reads: "lol you look bald." And yes, someone did like the comment.

#flatgirlproblems at its finest.

2. I can't skip a day to shower. Not because I'm a health nut or anything even near that sort, but it's because for the rest of the day I'll be bombarded with remarks like: "Oh, I didn't know it's raining. Did you just come from outside?" Every natural sparkling drop of grease will proudly present itself at the roots. Yum-o.

3. Big hair, don't care.  Yeah, don't know what that means. In fact, no hair, and I do care.

4. "It takes so long to straighten my hair." Never said that it my life. It takes 5 minutes, tops.

5. Unless I blow dry my hair immediately after a shower, and in a particular manner, (throw head upside down and blow dry from each angle until each strand feels like sahara desert), then my mane will lay as if it were superglued to my scalp. Hat head, is what some call it. Dear fashion magazine editors, please make hat head a "thing" so I can be the most stylish of them all.

6. I will never be asked to do a Garnier Fructis commercial. (Or Pantene, I'm honestly pretty flexible and comfortable with either brand). Other than my lack of hair, I have everything else going for me to be the commercial model. But because of this one little thing, I will never fulfill my dream and flip my hair against a white backdrop. (I joke.)

^ Look how much fun they're having. I am physically impossible to have as much fun as them.

7. Not a tv commercial, but my two seconds of fame and glory could be in the form of a "before" picture on a Rogaine ad. What do you guys think? Should I go for it?

8. If you ever want to color your hair, it's significantly cheaper with less hair than more. One $7 dye box can easily cover your mane whereas your roommate has to invest in a $180 treatment. True story.

9. Each strand of hair is precious. This is the reason I don't comb my hair throughout the day. Not because I am lazy. But because I cannot afford to lose another stand. (Cue solo violin) It's just that... too many of the good ones aren't with us anymore... because of that mistake. Moment of silence for those brave soldiers, please.

10. Your friends are tired of coming up with lies: "Jenny, you're not balding. It's in your head." And so they start to buy you different wigs for your birthday. Okay just kidding, but comments have turned from denial to acceptance: "Jenny, it's honestly not that bad."

Hope you enjoyed my ten slightly not-so-humorous-but-honest-and-totally-self-deprecating comments. (: If you found yourself nodding or agreeing with any of my points, then I welcome you to this community of some sort. Maybe secret handshakes are in order. T-shirts? Or is that too soon? I never know the correct protocol for these things.

XO.

blog planning.

And I'm having a blast. Oh blog, I have fallen head-over-heels in LOVE with you. (:

I'm trying to pick up as much as I can on: writing styles, driving traffic, design, coding, etc. JKFACEE is still a baby; it's figuring out its identity and corner of the internet, but it'll grow. It'll find its niche. This is going to be one fun, rewarding journey. Can't wait to see you grow, baby blog.

October: In Photos

Montage | Bits + pieces of the month of October via iphone photos. I am reminded and inspired to take more photos throughout the day for the month of November.

Happy News

Sunday, November 4, 2012

My two favorite bloggers, Elise from elisejoy and Elsie from a beautiful mess, have partnered up together to create an e-course on blogging.

I was really excited to hear the news. It's like hearing for the first time that messy buns are in style. Or that you can buy nutella and crackers together. Or that it's not just you that doesn't shave during the fall. It's every girl.

Do you know what feeling I'm talking about. Pure freaking happiness.

But really, if I want to be serious about this whole blogging thing, I should take a quick tip from the pros and my source of inspiration, right? Maybe I'll check it out.

Here's a link to it if you're interested in learning more about it. http://eliseblaha.typepad.com/golden/2012/11/blog-design-love-e-course.html

GOALS: NOVEMBER

Sunday, November 4, 2012

Happy November, everyone!

I know I said this last month but I just have to say it again: time FLEW BY. I feel like I just recently did one of these posts for October. Hope everyone is staying healthy and bundled up-- everyone around me is getting sick. My roommate included. ;( Not me quite yet, I feel like my immune system has toughened up since I was a kid. (Knock on wood.) I'm drinking my warm fluids and wrapping up in scarves. And my loving madre recently sent me my sweaters and jackets which was perfect for this past week's freezing cold weather. It really feels like winter has already hit the midwest.

October was a crazy one with midterms, client meetings, work, and church.

For now, I just want to quickly welcome the month of November and celebrate the season of fall and Thanksgiving. Cheers!

GOALS:

  • Be thankful

  • Send out cards

  • Keep blogging

  • Organize computer space

  • Do laundry

  • Go to class

  • Consistent quiet times

  • Love God

What are your goals for this month and what's your favorite part about fall? XO.
